THE ROPE
by Bret Harold Hart
[from 'Some Songs Will Fight You' 2023]
...
"The post-war 1950-70's I grew up in were awash with booze-as-family-coping-mechanism and I credit it and the 18 drinking age-gate with being the placenta that Punk was conceived in. We played drinking games in high school w our teachers and friends' parents.
While I did not drink before or during work since my 1st job in 1973, I seldom hit the pillow sober by the time I was in my teens. Then, college... and two tours in the Navy ... Do the math. Sisyphus!
In June 2022, I hit the brakes on functional alcoholism - after 50 'eventful' years - and have been mindfully walking what Leon might call the 'tightrope' ever since. This song tells that tale" - bhh
